Spirulina – A True Superfood

Spirulina – A True Superfood

Author -  Good Health

Many foods these days are trying to take advantage of the “Superfoods” fad but they are mostly imposters. Spirulina is considered nature’s perfect superfood, being one of the most concentrated, nutrient rich foods known to humankind. It comes from an ancient and primitive class of algae known as cyanobacteria (or blue-green algae).

While the idea of eating algae doesn’t sound very appetising, there’s something to be said about the nutritional value of an organism that powers the whole food chain. It has also been used for thousands of years as a fundamental source of nutrition in cultures all around the world, including the Aztecs, Mayas and the Toltecs.

The best Spirulina, that is most rich in phytonutrients, is grown in pure spring water on the Kona coast of Hawaii, where years of cultivation have developed superior strains of this magical plant.

Spirulina has a very soft cell wall making it easy to digest and therefore easy for the body to access all the many nutrients it contains. It’s perfect to help compensate for the over-processed diet we are exposed to in many western cultures.

Being a true Superfood, Spirulina has so much to offer:
·60% plant protein, providing all eight essential amino acids
·Richest known source of beta-carotene
· B vitamins and minerals including bioavailable iron and vital trace elements
· Omega 6 fatty acid GLA, which is often missing from modern diets
· A wide range of phytonutrients such as carotenoids, chlorophyll, enzymes, sulfolipids and glycolipids
· Powerful phytonutrient action – so much so that it’s 31 times more powerful than blueberries, 60 times more powerful than
spinach and 700 times more powerful than apples
· More antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action than five servings of vegetables

These benefits are made possible by the combination of three super nutrients present in Spirulina:
· Zeaxanthin, which offers powerful antioxidant protection for the eyes.
· Phycocyanin (the blue pigment that gives Spirulina its unique colour) offers antioxidant protection particularly for the liver and kidneys. It also supports immune function.
· SOD or Superoxide Dismutase is the fastest acting, most important antioxidant in the human body. It helps protect against oxidative stress.

Including Spirulina in your diet can help with many health and dietary conditions including the following:
· Low energy levels
· Frequent colds or infections
· Poor diet with low intake of fruit and vegetables
· Low iron levels
· Poor digestion
· Weight problems
· Pregnancy or breastfeeding
· Exposure to toxins or chemicals
· Poor liver function
· Vegetarian or vegan diet

Anyone can reap the benefits of Spirulina, so if you’re interested in trying it out for yourself, check out our range of high quality Spirulina Tablets and Spirulina Powder all grown on the pristine Kona Coast of Hawaii and bursting with a large array of easily absorbable vitamins, minerals, enzymes and complete proteins to promote energy, regeneration and a healthy body.
