Have you heard of CoenzymeQ10? Do you know its importance for your overall health? It might just change your entire wellbeing and energy levels. Find out more here…

CoenzymeQ10 (CoQ10) is a vitamin-like nutrient found in all body cells. The main function of CoQ10 is to promote energy production within our cells. Cells with the greatest energy requirement, such as the heart muscle cells, liver and immune system, have the largest need for CoQ10.

Cells that have the greatest energy requirement for CoQ10 often suffer most when there is lack of it. The heart, with its astounding work-rate of approximately 75 beats per minute, every minute of every day, pumping our entire blood supply through each minute has a major need for optimal levels of CoQ10.  However, when a deficiency exists, cardiovascular problems, fatigue and muscle weakness can occur. The immune system and the liver are other highly energy-dependent tissues that require sufficient levels of CoQ10 to function efficiently.

CoQ10 is also a powerful protective antioxidant and has been shown to be an effective treatment for periodontal disease when taken internally and applied directly to the gums. CoQ10 also helps reduce the oxidation of LDL or “bad” cholesterol and deficiencies of CoQ10 are more common in people with heart disease, due to the reduced protection of fats and impaired cellular function.

While Co-Q10 is usually manufactured in the body, supplementation may be required due to a natural decline in Co-Q10 levels with the aging process and depletion caused by certain medications. Clinical trials on cholesterol lowering medications such as statins have shown to reduce blood levels of CoenzymeQ10.  Other medications that can deplete CoQ10 include: Statins; Beta Blockers; Thiazides (diuretics); and Tricyclic Antidepressants

Supplementation with Co-Q10 should be considered if low energy, weakness and fatigue, cardiovascular problems or depressed immune function is present. As CoQ10 is fat-soluble it is best taken in an oil-based (e.g. fish oil) softgel capsule for maximal absorption and utilization to help safely restore energy and vitality.

Good Health’s Opti CoQ10 utilises naturally fermented CoQ10 in a base of fish oil for optimal absorption. Available in 30, 60 and 90 capsules.
