Weight Loss and Garcinia Cambogia - Does it Work?

Weight Loss and Garcinia Cambogia - Does it Work?

Most of us have, at some point, tried to lose weight, and more than likely had an earful of advice and tips from your work colleagues, Facebook friends, gym buddies or family members about what to do or not to do.

Some things might, or might not, work for you, but separating fact from fiction is a good way to find a long-term weight loss and management plan that can be part of a healthy lifestyle.
Experienced nutritionists agree that managing your weight naturally through a balance of the correct physical exercise and healthy eating is the way to go. But what about all the weight loss pills, powders and potions? Which of those really do work for weight loss and weight management?

Weight loss and Garcinia Cambogia

One supplement that has been subject to a number of studies with regards its effect on weight loss is Garcinia Cambogia, a pumpkin-like fruit that is native to Southeast Asia. Garcinia Cambogia has been used for centuries by locals as both a condiment to make food more filling and satisfying, and as a powerful natural remedy for digestive and inflammatory conditions.

So how does Garcinia Cambogia work for weight loss?

The active ingredient found in the rind of the Garcinia Cambogia fruit is called hydroxycitric acid, or HCA. Clinical research has shown that Garcinia Cambogia is an effective ingredient in weight management and helps to control your appetite and slow how much fat your body produces. Studies show that Garcinia Cambogia works for weight loss by blocking the enzyme that converts the carbohydrates we eat into the fat we store. Once the liver is unable to convert carbs to fat it converts it to glycogen instead, and increasing your body’s reserves of glycogen has been shown to reduce the need to eat.

Besides its ability to stand between carbs and fat, taking Garcinia Cambogia supplements helps with weight loss by increasing the levels of serotonin in our bodies. Low levels of serotonin are linked to both depression and reactive eating, so increasing serotonin levels by using Garcinia Cambogia for weight loss can help to not only reduce those food cravings, but help improve your mood and reduce stress and premenstrual imbalance.

Most New Zealand manufactured Garcinia Cambogia products use the internationally recognised USP (United States Pharmacopeia) standard testing method for HCA levels, which is also the accepted method in Australia. This method shows a 60% HCA level in Garcinia Cambogia. Although there are some 80% HCA products in the NZ market that have been imported, the 80% HCA level has been achieved using alternative testing methods. When the USP standard testing method is used these 80% products also tests at or below the 60% HCA levels, so don’t be misled into thinking a higher percentage always translates to a more effective Garcinia Cambogia product!

Keep in mind if you are diabetic and taking Garcinia Cambogia to lose weight that you should monitor your blood sugar levels as HCA can alter these levels in some people.
