10 Christmas gifts that cost next to nothing!

10 Christmas gifts that cost next to nothing!

The silly season is once again upon us and the stores are getting busy. If, like many people, you have a long list of gifts to get, you may be feeling anxious. It is important to remember that you don’t need to spend up large to show someone that you care. Personalised gifts come straight from the heart, they test how well you know someone and your creative side too!

1. Turn a service into a gift. Ask yourself what you can offer that someone would love to receive? This could be babysitting, cleaning, or gardening.

2. Make treats from the ingredients in your kitchen. Wrap up a tin of cookies, some preserved fruit, infused oils or dried tea from herbs in your garden.

3.Turn old photos into a photo book for lasting memories. This doesn’t have to be done professionally, you can make these at home.

4. Write a handwritten letter; this could include special memories from the year before, your favourite quote or a short story.

5. Gift a favourite book that you no longer read but that you believe someone else would love. Let them know the significance of the book.

6. Pick a bunch-worth of flowers from you garden or the garden of someone you know. Alternatively, take cuttings from your favourite plant with instructions on how to grow them.

7. Design a personalised calendar using templates found on the internet and add favourite photos on each month.

8. Make a collection of your favourite recipes and put them in a book or on cards.

9. Make a sugar scrub and put it into a glass jar. It takes under 10 minutes to make, and all it takes is two ingredients from your kitchen: granulated sugar and olive oil.

10. Give the gift of time. Find a free event in your area and take your special someone with you. Research local offerings on concerts, outdoor movies, street markets or galleries, or simply have a picnic in a beautiful place.

It may feel like December came around quickly, but the holiday season doesn’t mean that you should be put under financial strain by buying more things that people don’t really want or need. Gift giving should be an enjoyable time where we take a moment to give thanks for the special people in our life. Think about the person that you are grateful for and create a personalised gift for them that comes from the heart.
