Tips to beat insomnia and the benefits of a good sleep
Sorry team, we’ve got some lousy news. Not only is struggling to get to sleep frustrating, it can be really harmful to your health. But FEAR NOT! We’ve asked our naturopaths for their top tips to beat insomnia so you can rest easily (literally) and keep your health on track
New research published in the journal Science has found that your brain removes ‘toxic clutter’ the most during sleep. It does this by expanding channels between neurons that enable an influx of cerebrospinal fluid.
Uh, what?
Yep, that’s a bit of a mouthful! Long story short, your brain is actually really active while you’re asleep because it’s doing a clean out. Basically while you’re dreaming it’s eradicating toxins through a process so exhaustive that it can’t occur when you’re awake.
It’s important to get enough sleep so that your brain has time to rid itself of those toxins, as a build up is dangerous. On top of this though, there are lots of benefits of a good night’s sleep including being less susceptible to flus and viruses, while also reducing your risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 Diabetes. The amount of sleep that a person needs varies, but the famous eight hours is a good benchmark.
Here are our naturopaths tips to beat insomnia:
1. Cut down your intake of stimulants like caffeine and nicotine
